Ranked subject and course application is a special form of subject registration that for the time being is used only by a few institutes. The essence of ranked application is that the class size of courses is not maximized, but a waiting list of applications is created, and the applicants for the course receive so called ranking scores based on various requirements. These requirements vary in the institutions, but it is generally true that a good grade average, the advancement required as per the curriculum, the subject registration in the recommended semester, perchance disabled students, or those who filled in all OMHV questionnaires get a higher ranking score.

The number of applications is not limited, but that of entries is. Ranking takes place at the end of subject registration period: the students on the waiting list can enter the course until the size is reached, in the order set up based on the ranking scores. The other students are deregistered from the course, and the remaining places for the course are filled during the competition registration that follows.
